Daring to Exploring Who I am and Understanding My Mental Sky

I really received a lot from listening to the Personal Awareness CD. As someone mentioned in their blog, this is something one should listed to frequently as you can begin to learn and understanding ones behaviors, and those things that influence our actions.

I must stop ignoring the painful and disappointing aspects of the past. I am daring to explore those things that have thus shaped my mind, I liked the phase used in the tape that references understanding "your mental sky". This is deep, but a necessary key for me to become personally aware of who I am, why I think and behave as I do, and more importantly, steps I can begin to take to become emotionally intelligent.

Hey Deborah,

Great post... I so agree.

I used to wear my past like a badge.

I had a horrible childhood, I had this and that done to me.

I had a bad marriage and this and that happened to me.

I had this problem and that problem and that is why I am the problem riddled adult I am now.

The Life Skills contained in this program rocked my world.

I saw my mental sky and finally understood I was dragging around this grey sky full of clouds with me for no reason.

My childhood was over 30 years ago and I have not been married for almost a decade so why am I sad?

Becoming personally aware was one of the best things that ever happened to me.

I am over weight. I over eat. I know I learned that habit as a child and it became coping device.

Finally I saw that the TRUTH was that this habit was actually now the source of my unhappiness not the friend who once comforted my woes. It became an idol and I spent all my time bowing down to it's demands. It isolated me and was ruining my life.

That was a new mental sky.

Wow.

Now breaking any habit is not easy but Mr. Parker suggests small maintainable steps towards progress and that is just what I have started to do.

I have halted on the drive through windows, fast food, red meat and started eating a flax seed organic cereal with 7 grams of fiber... organic eggs , organic milk and as much healthy fruit, veggies and stuff as I can find.

Ya, sure I do indulge in the pleasures of white chocolate chip butter pecan pancakes every now and then but 1 (or) 2 will do rather than 4 (ha ha ha) and I replace the pork sausage with low fat turkey or soy.

My point is that we must examine ourselves and become personally aware and then once we see things that no longer serve us we can make steps to change our habits, beliefs and mental sky.

Great post Deborah C. I enjoyed what you had to say very much.
